New Workout Plan: Live in Britain

I've been in Bath for over 24 hours now and I can already tell I don't want to leave. It's like someone took the best parts of New Orleans, Rome, and Hogwarts and mashed them all together in one very pretty and very busy city. Today we started our orientation and I've started to get to meet people who live in the other houses, which is wonderful. Everyone is so sweet. We toured the building where we'll be having class every day (which isn't quite as long of a walk from my house as I thought it would be) and then we got to have a little bit of a look round the city. The first thing we looked at was Bath Abbey, the giant cathedral:

The cathedral was gorgeous, as you can see, but what stuck out in my mind were the street performers out in the front. There was a guy playing a guitar, a woman singing, and these two gems:

All in all the whole feeling of Bath is very different from anywhere else I've ever been. It's hard to explain. The closest thing I can compare it to is Paris, so maybe it's just the fact that I'm outside the United States or something.

We got our books for our classes (in my case, all 16 of them) and were then taken for a tour of places we could shop at. Many of these shops were cell phone places, so I plan on getting mine within the next week. It feels weird not having a phone. I keep having mini panic attacks because I'll think I've lost mine. Hmm maybe I've become too dependent?

When I visited the grocery store I bought yogurt, cereal, and milk because we have a severe lack of breakfast food here at the moment, so I've started stocking up on stuff.

Which beings me to the real topic of the day: walking. (How is this related to breakfast food? Wait for it.) I discovered walking when I went to college and no longer had the use of my SUV that is bigger than most army vehicles. Since coming to Denison I've complained and complained about the steps up from south quad, the sloping hill up from Granville, and the fact that I lived a thousand miles away from everyone else my freshman year. Now, being in Bath, walking has taken on a new level of annoying necessity. Sainsbury's (the grocery store) isn't exactly on the other end of town, but it isn't close by either. We've estimated that it's about .75-1 mile from my house. And I have to walk that 2-3 times a week, with my gallon of milk and all of my other groceries. Not that I'm complaining (well, not really at least). I get to walk through this lovely city AND I will have the most toned arms in the history of my life when I return to the States in December. It's a glass half-full.

I'm starting to learn my way around the town and I'm starting to look forward to my classes now that I've seen what we're reading (The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner! The Monk! Every Austen novel ever published!). Classes start next week, and until then I've got lots of time to socialize with the amazing people here and explore this fantastic city. And maybe find a black market that delivers milk.

Or maybe the Ministry of Magic could help me out
